Something very important: before you start, read the complete description!!! I am lucky to own more than one old Mac and to use the store of my company din.a.x! They helped me out in many ways, thank you for cables and.....(the list will be to long, but hey reader, take a look at their projects here and there) for example I could use more than one power supply unit for testing the whole thing without finishing the built of the power supply unit which later was built inside the SE/40, so I spare a lot of time and trouble. A big SORRY for my very bad english, I will do my best, which sometimes is not enough, I know - but if you misunderstand something because of my bad english style, please write and ask before you make any mistakes!!! If you have the chance to install MacOS 8.1, or the MacOS you want to use later with the SE/40, on your HD by another Macintosh, do it, because there will be some trouble with the installer of MacOS with the 68040/33 processor - the installation won`t start or aborts. There are two possibilities - you do some soldering, which is described here (CC-Computerclub) or you use the freeware "Wish you were.." which changes the gestalt from 90 (that`s the ID, if you use a 68040 @ 33 MHz on a 475) to the gestalt of another Mac, which uses this kind of processor, for example a Quadra 950! Before we start, I have some good news: I tested my SE/40 for about 20 hours to find out some thermic problems and I find nothing. The temperature is about 30 ° and the air, that comes out is mild warm. In the short time I also tested some programmes - Photoshop 3.0, Freehand 7.1, SoftPC, Pagemaker 6.0, Word 5.0, RamDoubler 8.0 and SpeedDoubler 2.0 - I found no problems. | |
